Disney has a fantastic way of screwing up their sequals most of the time, but Dead Man's Chest might just be another rare exception to the rules. I will try not to give any spoilers. The characters are usually the first thing to go. I feared that Johnney Depp would lose his touch with Jack, and that Orlando would make Will Turner even more cocky and lame than I thought he was in the first movie. (not that he wasn't adorable in some parts. ^_^) As for Elizabeth...well, I didn't think personally that she could get much worse. (I can't stand stereotype kick-butt women) Thanks be to all of them though, they survived. Johnney Depp, I hate to say it though, disappointed me. He lacked a spunk and crazy mysteriousness that he had in the first movie, and his entrance wasn't nearly as crazy or hilarious either. He seemed to be a bit more intelligent and mellow, which didn't quite click as well with me. Orlando Bloom, praise be, improved. He still had some of his cocky, stupid braveness that made me cringe at times, but otherwise he was simply adorable and handled himself a lot more seriously. His lines were delivered better and more naturally, and the directors gave us girls a lot to squeal over. ^_~ As for Elizabeth...I don't know what quite to say. I liked her a LOT better than I did in the first one, but she seemed to have changed the most. She mellowed out a lot more, and took on a more feminine side when she wasn't fighting with the skills her soon-to-be-husband taught her. Hehe. Guess who else improved? Her father! The new additions as well, I'm happy to say, were a huge hit with me. Davy Jones ROCKED, and so did a particular crew member of his. *grin* Very well acted and done, that's all I can say. All in all I am very happy with everyone's preformance. The left us a banger cliffy at the end of the story, (which is why I'm glad the third one was made back-to-back with this one) but one that gives us a lot of food for thought. The effects were amazing, the story was good even though it got a little long at times, and the characters still give me a lot to look forward to. If there's one thing I'll say though, this movie is definitely tailored for people who still get a thrill over the typical adventures. Am I ashamed of that though? Not when I've got Captain Jack Sparrow. ^_^ For the last ending note, though, I pose the question a lot wonder. Which is better? The first or the second movie? My brother says the second one comes very close to being as good, but I'm more in favor of the second one. While Jack Sparrow ruled the first one like he didn't as much in this one, everyone else seemed to move up on the acting ladder. So...take your pick. They're both classics of their time.

As I sat down in a packed theatre, at 10 P.M, two hours before the movie began, the theatre was already full. People came, dressed as Jack, with outfits steaming from plastic swords to full dreadlocks. One thing was sure, the anticipation was fulfilled 4 hours and 25 minutes later, when the movie finally finished. I simply do not want to spoil the plot, or any part of the movie, so i will sum up my review with simple adjectives describing how i felt as i left the theatre at about 2:30 am. The film is simply, remarkable, jaw-dropping, humorous, but overall, it leaves you with what every great movie dreams of, the sense of wanting more. As you leave the theatre, i promise, you will do whatever it takes to live to see the third: Pirates of the Carribean.

While the movie was still enjoyable, this was a major step in the wrong directions for the series. The gaping plot holes and the non-existent chemistry between Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley were glaring. The two lovers who were separated right before their wedding and had been apart for a time reunite and show all the passion of a wet noodle. The kiss between Elizabeth and Jack showed more energy than the two love birds ever did. The cannibal island was a blatant ripoff of C3PO and the Ewoks(and that's not a good). The entire story line of the sequence paralled Endor. I did like the character of Davy Jones and his special effects were well done. Would have liked to see a little more development of how he and Jack had crossed paths thirteen years ago, but hopefully that will be included in the third installment. Which the ending slapped you in the face with, really like the hard ending.

Three Stars out of Four "The adventure continues with the help of Johnny Depp - but the simplicity and fun that we enjoyed in the first film is often nowhere to be found." The fact that I was almost certain that this movie would not be better than the original probably helped. This left me undissapointed in the fact that it was not better, or as good, as the first Pirates. But Dead Man's Chest itself, is a dissapointment. The characters and their qualities that we so admirably love are somewhat lessened in the sequel, and when we would expect more screen time from the main players - what we recieve are boring new characters who we couldn't care less about. The plot and story that was so interesting yet simple in the first film let the action, comedy, and characters carry the film and plotline. Yet in Dead Man's Chest, the plot is extremely too complicated for a fun, summer blockbuster. In the sequel, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) discovers he owes a blood debt to Davy Jones. Sparrow must find a way out of his debt or else he will be sentenced to eternal life in solitude, working on the Flying Dutchman, Jones' ship. Elizabeth (Kiera Knightley) and Will (Orlando Bloom) are brought into the plot when they are arrested for helping Sparrow in the previous film. Will is told he will be released along with Elizabeth if he finds Jack Sparrow and takes something that belong to him and gives it to Lord Bennett. If you're saying to yourself - well, how complicated can that be? The movie makes it more complicated than it should be by throwing in scenes that matter very little and just add confusion. There were scenes that were very unnecessary, and several that went on way too long - and became a bit boring, unfortunate as it is to say. I also had a bit of trouble interpreting some of the characters' words, as some of their accents provided problems, as well as their volume while speaking. The comedic moments are not as many as in the first film, but don't get me wrong, I did laugh out loud entusiastically several times. Some of the action sequences went too over the top on CGI. While the scenes are still very entertaining, I found myself wondering during some of them "What happened to the fun in the simplicity of the fight scenes in the first movie?" I discovered that the fight sequences were dull until the second half of the film. And that's when I found a lot of things to change. The second half of Dead Man's Chest became what the whole movie should have been. We have an incredible fight sequence on an island, integrated with comedy that was clearly the highlight of the movie for me. We were left with the return of a great character, creating a wonderful yet terrible cliffhanger, as it leaves us in anticipation of the final installment. The CGI, make-up, and costumes are incredible - they did indeed exceed the first films. While it is human to compare Dead Man's Chest to the original film, try not to. You will be dissapointed. But don't get me wrong, the film is still a great adventure - and even when the plot is left behind, the adventure and comedic moments are still priceless, and leave us in eager anticipation for the next Pirates. This second addition to the 3 part trilogy is good as a popcorn flick. One of those movies you go see and say, "That was entertaining.", and then go home and forget all about it. That's about it. The acting is decent and there are some laughs and action, but as you may have heard elsewhere this movie is quite long. 2 hrs and 30 mins!!! What killed it for me was the length. It made everything else seem soooo drawn out. For a movie like this one, you need things happening as a constant beat. This movie was like hills and loooong valleys. The effects were alright, the sea monster was a bit "fake" looking at times. (By that I mean you could really tell it was computer done and it would take you out of the mood of the film) In the end, I just hope the 3rd one is better, this one will be one that I won't bother seeing again, even to refresh myself when the next installment arrives. (Buy a big Coca-Cola and stay awake!!! to see this one!!)

The meaning to the ending on the black pearl - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Reviews

(Major spoilers here) This is all deep psychology stuff, which is why I love this movie. Its got id, ego, super-ego involving the three main characters buts that?s for another discussion. I have read many write that the compass points back to the Pearl, his greatest love. As Jack rows away from the Pearl as its getting eaten and he looks at his compass, it without question is pointing back to Elizabeth . His pirate instinct took over and he had already made the decision to abondin ship and leave the Pearl and the crew to the Kraken to save his skin. He knew it was hopeless to defeat it and ?."Why fight when you can negotiate"? He needed his leverage back? Davy Jones heart. Nothing else was going to save his soul. What good is the ship if he is dead or a slave to Davy Jones, and his 13 years is about up. This is all about a woman?a wo mann. Jack even understood that when the voodoo lady was talking about Davy Jones. The compass doesn't work for him during the whole movie 'while' he already has the pearl. He doesn't know what he wants the most. He already has his ship, his title, his freedom, etc. The compass doesn't just give you one wish, and once you get it, it stops working. He's had the pearl for awhile now, what he wants most now he thinks 'consciously' is the chest to barter for his soul. Subconsciously Elizabeth left a mark on him in the last movie and having left without her at the end of the last movie, he feels an emptiness and void as he's galivanting the waters all this time without her, although he is not sure what it is at this time. He just feels a little lost in his journey. While the voodoo chic tells the story of David Jones' love and then grief of not being with the woman he loves, Jack immediately gets it, and starts to realize the mystery of the broken compass, as does the voo doo woman?"Jack Sparrow does not know what he wants"?more than anything in this world. Looking at the ship as he rows away, his soul speaks to him and tells him what you want the most is to save Elizabeth because she is your soulmate and you will not be able to live with yourself if you allow her to die, just as Davy Jones was not able to live with his broken heart and had to cut out his heart. It probably seemed like dejavu to him, and perhaps he even knows the history of Jones and saw a parallel between that and his current situation. To confirm, he looks at the compass, and sure enough it also points back at the boat confirming his hunch. He saves her and them temporaily with that wicked shot, and her admiration for him, while significant, is overcome by her praticality and will to survive be doing what she had to do to stay alive. Sparrow is not even disappointed because it just confirmed to him his instincts were correct that she was indeed his soulmate?.."Pirate". She done right be her, that?s all one can expect, if any of you remember that line from the first move. He has finally found his soul mate. This sort of energized him and he was more determined than ever to survive and so he takes on the Kraken head on with no fear, perhaps knowing he will be able to make another deal the Jones since Jones thinks Sparrow knows where the heart is.

Going in to see Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest at 12:01 am, there was a buzz of excitement in the air. I myself was positively quivering with joy. After the endless previews, the movie finally started, and...went pretty much nowhere. The opening shots of a rain soaked, deserted wedding were promising, as the East India Trading Company stormed the town in search of Will, Elizabeth, and Norrington, condemned to death after aiding in the escape of Jack Sparrow. That's pretty much where it stops making full sense, and the filler between the first movie and the third begins. This movie has many of the same flaws that the first had, namely the confusion about the Aztec gold. Barbossa's monkey is still hanging around the Black Pearl, and yet it is still immortal, which we learn by it being repeatedly shot. The whole Davy Jones thing is a little flimsy; it almost seems that they just wanted an excuse to make a really cool CGI character. The movie is a bit long at 2 1/2 hours, and there is much running around, pretty much the same as the first movie. But even though the movie had its flaws, there were some great comedic moments displayed by a wide range of characters, not just Jack. Some of the comedic gags are almost mirror images of ones in the first film; Governor Swan pulls a candle bracket off of the wall almost exactly the same as Will did it in the first. The actors and characters are what keep the film afloat; Johnny Depp is brilliant as always as Jack Sparrow, and this time around we get to see some real fear and emotions come from the unflappable pirate. Orlando Bloom does his best work to date as Will Turner, without much of the stiff and overdramatic acting he has done in many other films. He seems much more natural, and does a great job. Kira Knightly gets to wield a few swords, but is absent for much of the first half of the film. All in all, this isn't a cinematic masterpiece, but a fun summer blockbuster, and is ment to be taken as such. The extremely open ending will leave you hanging, and is perfect as an opener to the third movie. It will explode at the box office mainly for the fact that there are lots of Pirates fans out there, and to be honest, many of them don't care at all about the story, they just want to see Jack in all his drunken glory.

I have to say, there were many good points about this film. Would I say it's better than the first? No, sequels never are. However, I did find it highly entertaining, and I would recommend people who are interested in a bit of action without all the blood and guts and cute romance without the offensive material to go and see this movie. Definately a great outing for a family. I know I enjoyed it very much. :)

I just got home from the midnight showing, and I have to say this movie matches the first one in pretty much every way. Although the ending is a cliffhanger, the movie catches your attention right from the start, and never looks back. I thought some parts of the dialogue could be a little more clear, and the story itself could have been a little more defined, but overall the movie is as entertaining as the first, and anyone who says otherwise obviously fell asleep during the midnight showing.

lemme be honest with you, this film is nothing like the first. it's not funny. it doesn't have that cartoon violence kind of thing like the first one. and the bad guys are horrid. instead of going back to a lovely Port Royal, we find the town depressing and dark, and controlled by a mean tyrant. the world is no longer seen through naive eyes, and pirates are no longer lovable. the world in this film is darker, harsher, and grosser. the bad guys are really bad, the violence is more graphic, the squid monsters are gross, the cannibal part is stupid, and the whole thing is just dark and dreadful. the whole point of this film is that Jack Sparrow owes some kind of debt to Davey Jones, so he is supposed to be cursed for a hundred years. but there was some dead guy whose heart is still beating, which is in some box, and if Jack can find it he'll be spared. don't take little kids to see this, it's a bit too grown up and the violence is a bit overwhelming. so we're sitting in a theater for 2 and a half hours watching people fight over this box. there are whole scenes that have NOTHING to do with the essential story; a few times we got so bored we were tempted to just get up and leave. finally, the last 30 minutes it picks up a little. but then Elizabeth does something stupid and it messes up everything. then, they bring back a long-lost character (I thought that guy was dead?) and then the film is over. I probably won't waste my time seeing the third one.

with much anticipation of seeing this movie, the long wait in line followed by the long wait sitting in the theater, the movie finally came to life on the big screen and i was ready for a solid adventure. however, it just didn't happen... pirates 2 picks up at the supposed wedding of elisabeth and will, but is interrupted with their immediate arrests (don't worry, these are not spoilers, these details are in the synopsis of the movie). from there, the movie drags on for the first hour or so, finally picking up the pace towards the end, which was the ultimate high point of the movie. the acting overall in the movie was good, not great. johnny depp deliveres another great captain jack sparrow, but his performance in the previous film outshines this one. orlando bloom and keira knightly both turn in decent performances, enough to portray their characters as meant to be seen. the main problem i had with this movie was the overall plot and its flow. i felt that it tried to incorporate too much storyline, causing some areas of confusion to arise. this affects the flow of the movie in that it grows quite slow in some sequences, allowing you time to let out the yawn you have been holding inside. it also tried to capitalize on the things that worked in the first film too much, depp's witty remarks and different scenes involving different characters, it all just seemed like too much. anyways, the movie gets better as it goes on, with the ending, i felt being the best scene in the entire movie, leading to what should be a good third movie. however, even with that in mind, this movie overall, with all of the hype and anticipation, i felt was a let-down. too many things happening at once causes the movie to drag in parts, leaving you ancy in your seat as 2 1/2 hours drags on.

Oh my god was this movie amazing... I did'nt know what to expect since sequels normally suck something aweful. I was a huge fan of the first one and this movie blew me away. Intricate storyline, fantastic fight scenes, phenomenal graphics-- Pirates 2 had all this and more. I have to wait a god damn year to see the 3rd one and that will definatley drive me crazy!

Well.......where to begin? The Bad: Confusing plot.......although I basically get it......but my kids had to have me explain it to them. My 11 year old thought that Davey Jones was a fishlike remnant of Captain Barbosa from the first film. She never really got it. I had to explain that Davey Jones and his fishmen are new characters that Jack owes his soul to. There is alot going on in this film.......but if you simplify it........basically there are alot of people after the same thing.........THE DEAD MAN'S CHEST. All after it for different reasons. But it is confusing for kids.......and adult's may not really care. The movie is a tad too long. But I will admit........it gets better the longer you're into it.......in fact I didn't want it to end. Scary? Yes......my 9 and 11 year old thought it was much scarier than the first......and a kid cried for about 10 minutes behind me during one scary part. The Good: Jack Sparrow is back....along with all the other characters you care about. The cartoonish humor is still there. The pirate scenery and costumes are awesome including the ships. The crazy stunts, such as the swordfight on a water wheel tumbling down a hillside toward the ocean......or cannibals getting ready to shish ka bob Jack and a hilarious scene of Jack running away with a shish ka bob telephone size pole roped to his back.....along with his shipmates trapped in a cage shaped in a ball rolling down the hillside from the cannibals. There is far more action in this one than the last.......and each scene is supercreative. I will hand it to the director.......NEVER A DULL MOMENT. Davey Jones squidface is amazingly gruesome, as are his shipmates various fish-like appearances. My kids thought they were really creepy. And to top it all off you have the sea monster, Kraken, that is flat out nuts! As I said.........alot going on plot-wise, action-wise, and fun-wise. I had a blast but had to work hard to understand the plot. My theatre was sold out by showtime......and when I left, the next 3 showings were already sold out according to the marquee. This movie is going to be huge. And to top it all off......I may have to see it again to fully understand it! Ha! Great sequel. Best movie of the summer. Definitely worth the wait. Thank you to the producers and all involved with this movie for coming through with a winner!!!!!!

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was good but it some how lacked what the original gave us. The story wasn't terrible but not great either. The movie was still fun and enjoyable to watch because of Depps hilarious performance and some of the visual effects its just not what I had in mind I thought that it could have been better or I was hoping it would have been better. *I think the best movies so far this summer are starting with great movies to good movies. 1. The Da Vinci Code: I love thrillers!(I loved the flash back scenes and tom hanks character was smart!)A+ 2.Mission Impossible 3:I love action!(The part where Tom Cruise is sliding down the building shooting those dudes was awesome)A 3.Click:I love a good comedy! Pirates is basically the movie, Wild Wild West but instead of a gigantic spider, there is a gigantic octupus AND Davy Jones resembles Jar Jar Binks. This movie is purely mind numbing, suitable for pointless entertainment or drooling over Johnny Depp. There are a lot of rehashing old jokes from the privious movie. It would have been alot better if they did away with the barnical infested crew and ship. Very creative, but not believable. Unfortunatly Davy Jones, aka Jar Jar will be reappearing in the thrid movie. Perhaps Gore will learn a lesson unlike Lucas did.

For three long years we have waited for this movie. They started making the sequel almost as soon as the first was a hit, and by taking three years to complete it, it really made me believe they were putting an effort into it. Now, after seeing the film, I can say for a fact they put a lot of effort into it. While I can't come right out and say it was better then the original, I also can't bring myself to say it falls short of the original. The movie is nearly right on par with everything the first one had to offer. The films starts off fairly slow, much like the first one. A good portion of the movie is spent simply explaining the movie. Apparently, the famous/infamous Captain Jack Sparrow got his title of Captain by making a life debt with Davey Jones, the captain of the Flying Dutchman. The only way he can end the debt is by finding Davey Jones' heart, which he cut out himself after the loss of a love. On top of that, warrants for the arrest of Will Turner, Elizabeth Swan and (former) Commadore James Norrington. The only way for them to get off is by bringing back the compass that leads to the heart of Davey Jones, which Jack has. Of course Jack wouldnt want to giev up the compass, but it is also useless because they cant open the chest that holds Davey's heart without a key, that no one knows how to find. If you are at all confused by this, don't worry, because you should be. Even as I type it out, I am pretty sure I have a good portion of it wrong. The plot is just as confusing as the first one. Everytime you think you got it all worked out in your head, something happens, and you realize you were wrong. It will likely take multiple viewings to actually get it all down. While the confusing story may seem like a draw back, don't worry. Everything else more then makes up for it. The visuals are simply stunning, many scenes making me drop my jaw at how beautifully they were done. Just wait till you see "The Cracker", and you will know what I am talking about. Not to mention the crew of Davey Jones. Looking at them, I found myself trying to guess just how much was makeup and how much was CGI. Davey Jones, played by an unrecognizable Bill Nighy, looks so real it is quite frightening. Looking at screen shots, I was unsure if he could fill the boots of Barbossa, but he definately does. And the acting, particularly Johnny Depps (which was basically the only reason the first warrented a sequel), is all back, and maybe even improved. While nothing will be as satisfying as seeing Captain Jack Sparrow make his first appearance in the original, hearing him yelp like a girl and watching his smile as he realizes he has been betrayed and very close. Keira Knightley also has a much improved role from the first. Instead of just looking pretty, she is actually given room to show emotion. But Orlando Bloom, whom I really didn't like in the original, has stayed basically the same. You can tell from watching the first the Bloom wanted to be the star. Never for a second does he lay down the "I am just too cool" factor, even when his charecter is supposed to be a clumsy dork. Here is much of the same, only with a much more profound sense of coolness. It is rightful that Will Turner be much more heroic and brave, but Bloom tries to hard to make himself a hero. His charecter should be the one the auidence can relate to, but instead he is the one we want to slap. Like I said, the major drawback is the confusing story, and the slow start. I was anticipating a slow start, but not for it to drag as long as it did. An action sequence came, and I figured this is where it was gonna pick up. Instead, I got some great action, and then back to explaining the story. But, I must tell you all, be patient, because it does pick up. It picks up a lot. Just wait till the get to the beach. Eaisly one of the most entertaining scenes I have seen in a long time. The movie, which was filmed back to back with part three, ends with a cliffhanger. However, unlike the Back to the Future or The Matrix cliff hangers, where it leaves you feeling mad that you didnt get to finish it all, this one actually made me feel good. I was cheering when it ended. While I can't wait to see how the story continues, I am very glad with the way it left me hanging. Wanting more, but not mad about how much more I want.

Pirates of the Carribean 2, was a well done movie, but I expected more. The ending leaves you hanging a little too much, and Jack Sparrow..... what was up with him? When did Jack become evil? Anyway, I recommend this movie to big pirate of the carribean fans. Overall all, it was a pretty good movie.
